School Specific Professional Development: Meeting and Classroom Visit
Farrah focuses on topics that align with the school’s objectives and the needs of their educators and students. Farrah can offer support in any reading and/or writing curriculum. Usually, this option involves a series of customized professional development days specific to grade levels: K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Schools can choose the number of days based on the school’s objectives, although Farrah’s experience suggests that schools benefit most from receiving at least five days per grade band throughout the academic year. Each professional development day typically includes a meeting and classroom visit for each grade team, where the educational consultant works with each grade to model literacy methods and coach educators. Farrah works closely with teachers to study student data, discuss goals and next steps, and model research-based methods with literacy instruction.
School Specific Professional Development: Pushing into Classrooms
Farrah can “push into” classrooms to model best practices and have teachers try the work out. The day would be spent in and out of classrooms. With this model, there wouldn’t be a need for grade level meetings. This option is particularly beneficial for schools facing challenges with substitute coverages, providing a seamless and impactful learning experience directly within the classroom environment.
Special Topic Days
Special Topic Days can be one of the professional development days or they can be offered as an additional day. During these sessions, participants have the chance to explore specific topics in greater detail. Here are some examples of topics covered:
-Supporting Multilingual Language Learners
-Supporting Struggling Writers or Readers in the Classroom
-Using Data to Inform Whole Class and Small Group Instruction
-How to Build Knowledge and Grow Vocabulary
-Ways to Support Phonics and Grammar in the Upper Grades
Leadership Coaching for Aligned Professional Growth
Farrah offers direct support to school leaders, lead teachers, and coaches, assisting them in addressing the school’s top priorities and fostering a cohesive approach to professional development.
